I am so excited to let you in on what we are doing New at JG Johnson this year! After attending several conferences in which Looping was modeled and proven with research to enhance the students education- I am pleased to say that here at JG Johnson we have been given permission to run a 3 year trial on Looping. Hers is how it works:
1 Kindergarten Teacher- Mrs. Baltutat
1 1st Grade Teacher- Mrs. Thorn
1 2nd Grade Teacher - Mrs. Hargis
Each individual teacher teaches in their strongest area of curriculum. So Mrs. Baltutat teaches Writing to the Kinder students, 1st grade students, and 2nd grade students. Mrs. Thorn teaches Reading to all those grade levels, and Mrs. Hargis teaches Math to those grade levels. During the day your student switches classes to attend the other teachers classroom. The homeroom students are in their homeroom during Science and Social Studies plus their curriculum time for which their homeroom teacher teaches.
It has been proven that students who are involved in a Looping schedule do better as they receive instruction from 3 different teachers and it has also been proven to keep behaviors at a minimum. Looping has been proven to develop and maintain strong relationships with the teachers and their students. All the teachers involved in the looping process for grades k-2 are using the DOJO classroom behavior system so that we are all consistent with the students expectations of behaviors.
We are all very Excited about being able to experience this, as we are always looking for what will Improve our students and their Education!
